    Real dedication by Alex. He independently organized a stay in Prof. Mayer's lab before starting his master's thesis in our lab. He then worked on HSPs during his time with us and continued pushing the story even after moving to Switzerland for his PhD. The sweet reward - a paper on nucleotide-dependent Hsc70 dimer dynamics and its interaction with the cochaperone DnaJB1 - is now out in J Proteome Res.!

    Huge congratulations to Kuky and his students Michael, Luky, and Fiji on this outstanding achievement! In a long-term collaboration with CF Plus Chemicals, they developed a new class of cross-linkers based on Togni reagents. Their work has now been published in J. Am. Chem. Soc.!

  • 2026/04/29:

    Maartje moved to another lab some time ago, but we still have things to finish. Published in JASMS, this work expands phase-corrected absorption mode processing for 2D mass spectrometry. This advancement doubles the signal-to-noise ratio and resolving power, significantly improving proteoform sequencing and small-molecule (ergot alkaloid) analysis.

    The OP JAK InterMicro project has been instrumental in strengthening intra-institutional collaboration: functional and biophysical assays together with structural mass spectrometry revealed how calcium loading in the acylated segment acts as a molecular switch, controlling the structural folding and membrane penetration capacity of RTX toxins. Now out in J Biol Chem.

    Fast, efficient, and online: This recent ACS Omega paper showcases a PNGaseRc-based deglycosylation column that streamlines analysis for therapeutic proteins and antibodies.

  • 2026/04/14:

    Is it time to move past formic acid? In this collaborative study in Anal. Chem., we contributed to establishing propionic acid as a robust alternative for LC-MS. This simple tweak boosts peptide IDs and offers a true “drop-in” way to increase proteome depth without compromising chromatography.

  • 2026/03/25:

    Wrapping up this final piece of research marks a bittersweet milestone. Initiated by our late colleague Angel Luis Pey and led to completion by Milagros Medina, this work reveals new insights into NQO1 function. To your memory, Angel, thank you for the inspiring collaboration.

    Fantastic news! Huge dedication and hard work of Jasmin and Luky led to great data on CLC exchange coupling and this fitted perfectly to cryoEM and MD simulations obtained at Stanford by Maduke, Chiu and Dror labs! Joint paper is now out Nat Commun!

Software and data

Location and transportation

  • Location: BIOCEV research center — Průmyslová 595, 252 50 Vestec
  • Public transport: “Vestec – BIOCEV” by buses 326 / 331 from Opatov (metro C). Alternatively, buses 332, 335, 337, 339 from Budějovická to “Vestec, Safina” followed by a 700–800 m walk.
  • Getting around Prague: use the metro. Trip planning: dpp.cz or the “PID Lítačka” app (also for buying tickets).
  • Tickets: a 90-minute transfer ticket is 40 CZK (metro / trams / buses). Validate paper tickets at first entry (yellow validator). Bus fare to BIOCEV from Prague is ~50 CZK (Prague + 1st outer zone).
  • Boarding note: since Aug 2025, you may board any door with a valid ticket (app). Otherwise, board front door, show the ticket, and tell the driver your stop: “Biocev” (or “Safina” from Budějovická).

Accommodation

  • Accommodation is not centrally organized; participants book their own. We recommend staying near bus routes to Vestec (ideally around Opatov — metro C) or anywhere on metro C south of “Pankrác”.
  • Options: in Vestec — U Krbu. In Prague near buses/metro C — Amedia Express Prague, Rezidence Emmy, Hotel Globus, Hotel Oya, Hotel Otar, or search for AirBnB around these areas.
